✍🏽 Penning my UX Interview Experience being an Interviewer

Conducting interviews remotely has become challenging, where neither Hard skills nor Soft skills seem to be sufficient to ensure Healthy Conversation. with time & learnings, I got to realize that it also needed an exhibition of emotional skills, which are Empathy & Patience.

Having said that, to make the discussion more Informed & Productive, it’s important that people from both ends are well aware of the action Items/talk points for the session.

💡 Points to remember, If you are an Interviewer

👉 From the Interviewer’s side, Areas of focus w.r.t a Case study can be shared in advance with the Invite to make the Interviewee well Informed.

The area of Focus goes as follows:

  • What was the problem you were solving
  • What was your Role in the presented Case study
  • Why did you follow so & so Process/Approach.
  • How did you get to the Solution. Feel free to share your Iterations & your journey towards getting to the solution
  • What are the Impacts

Its important to understand that, Some times less is more !!!

💡Points to remember, If you are an Interviewee/Candidate

Think before you share your Case study, if you are going to share a Casestudy about research where your team had 15 other researchers & you are one among them, will the interviewer be able to differentiate & understand your contribution/Skillset.

👉 From the Candidate’s Side, do ensure you share the right case study that can best represent your skillset & also ensure your talk points align with the interviewer’s Areas of Focus.

  • Ensure Time management is taken into account. Always try to complete your presentation within the given time span.
  • Ensure you keep your presentation conversational & not a Monologue.
  • Ensure you present a portfolio that is implemented in Real-time & your role for the given project is preferably an Individual Contributor role (preferably) or working with a team of designers less than 3. So that it can help the Interviewer to understand your skills better. .
  • Every company/Hiring manager prefers Attitude over Aptitude. So be nice, don't be a Jerk.

✌️The outcome of Practice Proposed

  • You can ensure that the goals for the session are clear & aligned
  • Improved desired Results out from the session
